It's a new year so time for new goals. I'm horrible at blogging, I either can't find the time to sit down and do this or I'm tongue tied and have no idea what to say. But not today, I've got my coffee in hand and I'm ready to write all about Savannah!
This was our first adventure of the new year and what a gorgeous city to start with. Streets filled with Antebellum style houses, original cobblestone paths, horse-drawn carriages, oh my heart.
The first night, after gorging at Paula Deen's southern restaurant, we wandered on to River Street and watched the massive cargo ships come into port. This used to be a very happening street lined with cotton warehouses, today the street is lined with pretty little shops and to-die-for food.
Needless to say, you can spend hours walking the squares, strolling Forsyth Park or find yourself gazing at the French Gothic work in the Cathedrals.
The BEST part of this trip, aside from all the gorgeous architecture and quaint, historic nostalgia, was the food. We stopped at the infamous Gallery Espresso and they absolutely lived up to their fame. It was the perfect place to escape the cold to grab a quick bite, drink some hot chocolate, read a newspaper or sample some of their rich cakes. In case anyone was wondering, this was the best carrot cake I've ever had.
If you've read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, then a visit to the Mercer Williams House is a must. At this point, we couldn't resist hopping on a horse carriage ride to learn more about the city, especially since Alenah kept calling out Dog-Dog everyntime she saw one. I'm really glad we saved the Wormsloe historic site for last because oh man, that shot took me a while! There were so many people, despite it being in the 30's that day. We waited them out however, and Nick helped block the gate for me while I quickly snapped the empty driveway of Wormsloe. All in all, it was an amazing time and I'm sure I'll be back at some point.
